Desert X 2019 (A Day in Coachella Valley)

We took the kids to Coachella Valley during the  President’s Day weekend  to visit art installations for  Desert X 2019. The art exhibits are free and open to public from February 9, 2019 to April 21, 2019. The art exhibits are installed in different parts of the Coachella Valley.

Leaving home early to maximize light and hopefully catch sunrise in one of the installations, it was almost 7 am when  we parked the car on the side of the dirt road. First stop was Specter by Sterling Ruby; It was unforgettable because It was so windy, cold and we experienced being in  a “ mini sandstorm”  Sand affected  our visibility and we had sand on our hair, ears and clothes. Now I understand why there’s plenty of wind farms in the Coachella Valley.

From the side of the road, we walked  a few feet towards the “orange glow of a rectangle which stood proud and unique against the mountain and the wind mills. We were not able  to visit all the installations for lack of time.

Death Valley (in half a day)

We were headed to Mt Charleston to take the kids for some winter fun and Vince thought we could pass by Death Valley on our way there. We have always wanted to explore  Death Valley National Park but the fear of extreme warm weather during the visit was a deterrent. We figured, it was safer to visit it during winter when temperatures range from the low 30’s  and high 60’s F.  Death Valley National Park earned a world record  for having the highest air temperature in July 1913 at 134 degrees F.

Leaving home around 3 am, we arrived at Death Valley National Park around 0630 am; the sun had just risen and it was beautiful. I wish we had more time to explore it, It was a short adventure , I’m sure we will visit it again.

US and Canada Coast to Coast Road Trip Adventure with Tesla Model 3

So we tried the Model 3 this summer; round trip coast to coast. It was our first time  using a full electric car so planning required more effort and considerations.

We had a general idea as to where we wanted to go, but we dealt with the little details of our  route on an everyday basis. We booked our accommodations the day before or the day itself.

We left Los Angeles around 9 am, arrived at Barstow, CA to supercharge and had lunch. Late afternoon was spent exploring the historic downtown of Flagstaff, Arizona. We enjoyed the shops, street art, performers and the  laid back vibe of the city.
